IMPHAL: In a breakthrough, Manipur police have apprehended a 46-year-old woman, who is an active member of the banned People's Liberation Army (PLA), in a special operation.
The operation, carried out in Imphal West district, resulted in the seizure of weapons, money, and several electronic devices from her possession.
As per the police reports, the arrested woman, Thokchom Ongbi Anita Devi, was arrested from her home at Sagolband Sayang Kurao Makhong under Lamphel Police Station. The police seized a pistol with a magazine, 19 live 9mm cartridges, 15 live 38 cartridges, Rs 5,000 cash, six different brand mobile phones, a few SIM cards, and three Airtel 5G Plus SIM cards.
The officials believe that these gadgets were being utilized for communication and operational activities in connection with the proscribed militant group.
The Manipur police control room has confirmed the arrest and seizure of weapons and electronic gadgets during the 24-hour special search operation.
The raid was conducted by a joint squad of Manipur police commandos and women police officers, providing a quick and coordinated implementation of the operation.
After the arrest, the authorities have lodged a case under pertinent sections of law and have initiated an in-depth inquiry. The officials are investigating potential connections with other insurgent operations and networks belonging to the PLA.
The People's Liberation Army (PLA), established on September 25, 1978, has been waging guerrilla war with the aim of re-establishing Manipur's sovereignty, which it believes was lost after the merger of the Manipur kingdom with the Indian Union in 1949. The outfit has been involved in several insurgency movements in the region over the years.
