IMPHAL: In a major operation, security personnel arrested an alleged member of the proscribed United National Liberation Front-Koireng (UNLF-K) along the Manipur-Myanmar border yesterday. The accused, Moirangtham Ricky Singh, 22, was nabbed in the General Area between Border Pillar 85 and 86, under the Tengnoupal police station in Tengnoupal District. Singh is a resident of Khurai Chairenthong in Imphal East District.
In a separate incident, Manipur Police detained another suspected militant linked to the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREP). The arrested individual, Laishram Bishorjit Meitei, also known as Yuremba, is 33 years old and hails from Sekmaijin Mayai Leikai. He was arrested from the Sekmaijin Ningolkhong locality that falls under the Hiyanglam police station in Kakching District. Authorities say that Meitei was involved in extortion of the locals in Kakching.
Additionally, Manipur police have apprehended a 46-year-old woman, who is an active member of the banned People's Liberation Army (PLA), in a special operation. As per reports, the arrested woman, Thokchom Ongbi Anita Devi, was arrested from her home at Sagolband Sayang Kurao Makhong under Lamphel Police Station. The police seized a pistol with a magazine, 19 live 9mm cartridges, 15 live 38 cartridges, Rs 5,000 cash, six different brand mobile phones, a few SIM cards, and three Airtel 5G Plus SIM cards.
These arrests reflect the continued efforts of security forces to counter militant activity in the region, especially in the sensitive border regions and local communities. The arrests are a part of an overall strategy of upholding law and order and securing the safety of the citizens of Manipur. Additional investigations are being carried out to determine the complete nature of the individuals' activities and affiliations.
