IMPHAL: State and central government offices in Manipur would be completely shut down beginning tomorrow, according to the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI). COCOMI Coordinator Th. Somorendro announced the decision at a news conference today.

According to Thokchom Somorendro, the committee is moving forward with the agitation as previously declared as the seven-day deadline that COCOMI issued the government has passed.

The requests include identifying and punishing individuals guilty for the horrific slaughter of three women and three youngsters in Jiribam, legally designating the armed organisation involved as a terrorist organisation, and reviewing the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in six police station jurisdictions.

Samorendro underlined that it had been decided to address these important concerns in a ruling party meeting on November 18. He did, however, note that the government had not acted decisively in the allotted period.

Additionally, he cited a declaration from the Chief Minister that stated that the CM Singh and the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) would take the lead in measures to protect the state if the administration was unable to deliver these promises. The Chief Minister and the MLAs were urged by Somorendro to actively lead the people in this fight in order to keep their promise.

Schools and emergency medical facilities will not be affected by the shutdown.
