IMPHAL: On Day 4 of the National Games 2025, Manipur moved to the top of the medal list with nine gold, seven silver, and three bronze medals. Services were close behind in second place, just one medal behind.
Manipur's dominance in weightlifting persisted as Bindyarani Devi set a national record in the women's 55kg category. She claimed gold with a total lift of 201kg, comprising 88 kg in snatch (a new national record) and 113 kg in clean and jerk.
Manipur's wushu athletes gave a great performance, winning one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. Kangjam Monish Singh won gold in men's Taijijian, while Wahengbam Bhumeswor Meetei got bronze. Khaidem Bidyashwori and N. Malemnganba won silver in women's Taijiquan and men's Gunshu, respectively. Oinam Bidyapati Chanu earned bronze in women's 56kg Sanda.
Manipur's strong performance pushed them to the top with 19 medals. Services had a great day, winning nine medals on Friday, including five golds, bringing their total to 18 (9 gold, 6 silver, 3 bronze). Karnataka, which was in second place, dropped to third in the rankings.
Meanwhile, Ace wushu player Nyeman Wangsu secured Arunachal Pradesh's first gold medal at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand on Thursday. According to chef de mission Abraham K Techi, she had secured the medal in the Daoshu event.
This marked her third consecutive gold medal at the National Games. Previously, she had won gold in the last two editions held in Gujarat and Goa. The victories highlighted her expertise in this Chinese martial art.
