IMPHAL: Sarungbam Athouba Meitei of Manipur created history as he won his second gold medal in the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand. Having earlier bagged the State's first medal in the Games, Athouba triumphed again on Thursday, clinching gold in the Men's Individual Duathlon, following his earlier victory in the Men's Individual Triathlon.
Manipur's overall performance has been impressive as the state now stands at a total of 11 medals, consisting of 6 gold and 5 silver. It is the second position in the medal standings after Karnataka.
Wushu athletes have contributed significantly to the success of Manipur. The state's medal winners include Oinam Malemnganbi in Taijiquan, Tongbram Saya Chanu in Women's Changquan, Konjengbam Luxmi in Women's Nanquan, and Bonish Yurembam in Men's Nanquan with gold medals in their respective categories. Silver medals were also received by Yumnam Rikimbala in Women's Nandao, Marshal Salam in Men's Changquan, Khaidem Panthoi in Women's Changquan, Hanjabam Langlentombi in Women's Nanquan, and the pair of Marshal Salam and K. Panthoi Devi.
Adding to the Manipur pride, Telheiba Soram added a silver medal in Men's Individual Triathlon. Celebration marked Athouba's home in Singjamei Chingamathak, Imphal as Chef-de-Mission Moirangthem Rajchandra proudly mentioned the achievement by Athouba in bringing recognition to the state.
