Frontline COVID-19 warriors felicitated in East Khasi Hills, Shillong

SHILLONG: The Commissioner & Secretary, Revenue & Disaster Management Department, R. Lyngdoh felicitated frontline and COVID warriors of East Khasi Hills District during a programme organized by the DDMA (District Disaster Management Authority), East Khasi Hills (EKH) District, at Shillong Club here on Saturday. The frontline workers also shared their experiences during the workshop.

The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner & Chairperson of EKH DDMA, Isawanda Laloo; EKH Superintendent of Police, S. Nongtnger; ADC & CEO, DDMA, EKH District, D. Phawa besides senior officers and incharge of different COVID cells of the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Lyngdoh congratulated the DDMA of all the 11 districts in the State for the roles they have played in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Lauding the services rendered by the frontline workers who have been working round the clock to contain the spread of the pandemic by helping the needy, Lyngdoh said that their services will be remembered for generations to come.

Lyngdoh reminded the officials and other personnel, ''As government employees, it is our duties to comfort, provide and deliver our services for the safety of the people across the State.''

She also expressed confidence that ''with the experiences we have gained during the last one year, the district administration in particular and the State in general would be able to systematically handle the second wave of COVID-19. Lyngdoh also appealed to all the citizens to strictly follow the health protocols like wearing of face masks, frequent washing of hands, use of sanitisers, and to maintain social distance at all times. As part of the programme, officers incharge of various cells shared their experiences during the ongoing fight against COVID-19.

The Commissioner & Secretary also distributed appreciation certificates to officers and staff performing their COVID duties in various capacity across the district. During the programme, a documentary along with a coffee-table book with the title 'Taming the Panic' on COVID-19 management in EKH district were released.
