SHILLONG: In accordance with the Vigilance Awareness Week being observed all over the country, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam also celebrated the same with the theme 'Independent India @ 75 : Self Reliance with Integrity' from October 26 to November 1, 2021.
During the Vigilance Awareness Week, various competitions were held such as poster making, slogan writing, and essay competition on the mentioned theme following the guidelines of the organization. With the ongoing pandemic situation, all the competitions were held through online mode. The programme concluded on Monday with prize distribution ceremony in the presence of the director of the institute Dr VK Mishra.
Speaking on the occasion, he said,"Vigilance Awareness Week was observed to awaken the consciousness within us and not to be a part of any practice which our consciousness does not permit."
Corruption has been one of the major obstacles in the development of the country and to imbibe the spirit of integrity, an oath-taking ceremony was administered by Dr Arnab Sen, Principal Scientist of the institute. The pledge emphasizes about the roles and responsibilities of every citizen to keep a strict vigil for good governance. It is the ethical duty of every citizen to inculcate such behaviour in day-to-day activities.
