JOWAI: One of the important milestones in the sports history of Meghalaya has been achieved with the commissioning of the state's first sport climbing wall at Jowai. The wall, for the 6th Meghalaya Games, was inaugurated on Monday by local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla. John Kharshiing, Working President of MOSA, Director of Sports & Youth Affairs DD Shira and other distinguished guests were also present at the occasion.
Shylla described the event as a "momentous occasion that will be remembered for years to come." He emphasized Meghalaya's unique topography, which makes it an ideal spot for climbing, and extended his gratitude to the state government for its support.
Head Coach Wallambok Langdoh spoke about the dedication and journey of local climbers, saying, "Despite having limited facilities, our climbers have trained with the Indian Army in Shillong, Assam, and at the Gorkha training center. Their commitment has led to medals at both zonal and national levels. The establishment of this climbing wall marks a significant advancement and is expected to nurture new talent while bringing greater recognition to our region."
The new climbing wall will draw climbers and nurture emerging talent, with the goal of transforming Meghalaya into a sports powerhouse.
