SHILLONG: In a politically charged atmosphere where murmurs of an impending cabinet reshuffle echo through the corridors of power in Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has chosen to maintain a strategic silence. When confronted with growing speculation, the Chief Minister responded, “No, I have no comments on that. Right now. When the time is appropriate, if there is anything, I’ll definitely... Coming back to joining of more people.”

His calibrated response, though seemingly evasive, has only added fuel to political conjecture within the ruling coalition. While Sangma remains tight-lipped, his cabinet colleagues and coalition allies are already reading between the lines.

Urban Affairs Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Snaiwbhalang Dhar toed a cautious line, stating, “The Chief Minister will be able to reply about cabinet reshuffle.” However, Dhar took the opportunity to showcase the National People’s Party’s growing clout, asserting, “We are happy when friends keep joining the party; it shows our party’s (NPP) strength from time to time.”

On the Congress’s pointed accusation that the NPP is on a political “shopping spree” — allegedly poaching MLAs in a bid to consolidate dominance — Dhar dismissed the charge outright: “It is wrong because we already have number and if somebody wants to come how can we say no.”
