SHILLONG: Meghalaya’s Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing development works at the Captain Williamson Sangma State University campus in Balalgre. He was accompanied by Rangsakona MLA Subir Marak and Education Department Adviser H.M. Shangpliang.

Inspecting critical infrastructure with officials from departments including PHE, PWD (R&B), Power, and BSNL, the minister called for accelerated efforts to ensure the university is ready for its upcoming academic session in August 2025. The minister was apprised that construction under the Public Health Engineering Department is yet to commence. A borewell and treatment plant are in the pipeline, with officials aiming to complete the project within a year. To meet immediate requirements, a temporary water supply system is being explored. “The executive engineer has been directed to submit an estimate at the earliest,” he stated, adding that the temporary water connection should be completed within two months.

Electricity remains a concern, with the campus currently reliant on generator power. “Although Rs 44 lakh has been sanctioned, the work is still pending. The department must initiate the electrification process immediately,” Sangma instructed. Department officials assured that electrification can be completed within a month of receiving the sanctioned amount.

The boundary wall for the initial 90 bighas of land has been completed, while another 50 to 60 bighas remain unbound. The Public Works Department has been asked to prepare estimates for either a temporary or permanent boundary. Internal road estimates are also being prepared.
