SHILLONG: A joint operation by district police and Assam Police led to the arrest of five individuals on Saturday, following the tracing of a stolen motorcycle to North Garo Hills. The operation was launched after intelligence reports revealed the movement of stolen vehicles in the region. A Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle (Registration No. AS-18 K 3422), which had been reported stolen from the Matia Police Station in Goalpara, was intercepted at Wageasi OGC. Another motorcycle (Registration No. AS-01 FF 1309) was also recovered at Gairong Bazaar.
Investigations suggest that the motorcycles were being prepared for illegal smuggling into Bangladesh via Rongara. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rockystar M Sangma, a resident of Bagmara, Dabigiri; Sanstar A Sangma, also from Bagmara, Dabigiri; Fozirul Haque from Sidabari, Goalpara; Rofiqul Ali (Nabar Ali), 27, son of Anser Ali, from Nayapara (Digpara) under PS Matia; and Rakibul Islam, 28, son of the late Jamoor Uddin, from Nagarbera (Paharpara) under PS Nagarbera in District Kamrup.
