Shillong: Two cadres of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) surrendered before the Superintendent of Police, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, on Thursday.

“In a significant development, the below-noted Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) cadres surrendered themselves before the Superintendent of Police, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Mairang,” said the official statement.

During the preliminary interview, “both the cadres revealed that they were misguided by Samuel Wahlang Pahsyntiew, who is wanted in connection with Shillong Sadar Police Station Case No. 80(03)2024 U/S 120(B)/121A/307/324 IPC R/W Section 10/13/16/18 of UA(P) Act and Section 3(a)/3(b)/5/6 of Explosive Substance Act (Shillong Syndicate Bus Stand IED Blast Case) to join the HNLC, and together all fled to Bangladesh.”

They also stated that they “were associated with the HNLC and were assigned to perform menial tasks, including cultivation-related tasks, which, according to them, were far-fetched from the cause of the organization’s propaganda.”

The duo expressed that “as they were disillusioned and dissatisfied with the tasks assigned to them for more than 15 months in the hands of the senior cadres of HNLC, they decided to run away from Bangladesh on June 20, with an intention to return to the mainstream of society and have sincerely regretted joining the proscribed HNLC.”

“The surrendered people have been interviewed, their statements were recorded, and they have been placed at a secure location pending further necessary action,” police informed.

The surrendered individuals have been identified as Dibarius Jyrwa (32 years), S/o (L) Ti Ryntathiang, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, and Ridor Lyngdoh Nonglait (30 years), S/o (L) Charles Lyngdoh, Peinlang, Eastern West Khasi Hills District.
