SHILLONG: A deadly road accident occurred on National Highway 06 in Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district near Umlyngkdait at around 12:05 AM on April 7, 2025, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The fatal incident was reported to the authorities at 12:22 AM, after which a swift response team was dispatched to the scene.
Initial investigations showed that the victims were travelling in a Maruti Alto 800, driven by 30-year-old Robi Paswan, a resident of Lumparing in East Khasi Hills, Shillong. With him was 26-year-old Prakash Dutta, a Bangalore resident. The two were travelling from Shillong to Guwahati when their car hit the rear of an unidentified truck, which sped away after colliding with them.
The accident caused extensive damage to the Maruti Alto, killing both passengers in the deadly accident. Prakash was identified using his driver's license found at the accident site. The bodies were taken to the Emergency Room of Civil Hospital Nongpoh following the accident, then later shifted to the morgue for further procedures.
The wrecked car has been transported to the Nongpoh Police Station's service road to keep it secure and look for further leads. Authorities are trying to trace the involved truck in order to initiate appropriate legal actions.
