Assam Rifles informs Mizoram village students of career prospects in Army & security forces

AIZAWL: The Lunglei Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) conducted a Lecture on "How to join the Army/Assam Rifles and other CAPFS" at New Light School of Tuipang village on Wednesday.

During the lecture, the students were informed about role of defence forces, various entrance or examinations, eligibility in respect of qualification, age, procedure to apply, duration of training, pay, privileges, facilities and opportunities. While interacting with the students, it was observed that though many of them are keen to join the forces, due to lack of knowledge about the eligibility and means to apply for entrance examination they are not able to utilize the opportunities. A total of 55 students and teaching staff of the school attended the event, stated a release.

SESSIONS ON GINGER PROCESSING & KITCHEN GARDENING: The Aizawl Battalion organized lecture-cum-interactive sessions on ginger processing and kitchen gardening for the inhabitants of Border villages of all COBs/POB on February 16.

Ginger is an important commercial crop cultivated throughout the country with major production in the North East States, Gujarat, Orissa, Maharashtra, Himachal and Uttar Pradesh. Ginger is mainly used as a condiment in food preparations and is also used as carminative and gastric stimulant in many medicinal preparations.

Processing of ginger is undertaken to dehydrate it for preparing ginger candy in addition to ginger and garlic-based products. It has wide applications in food processing as well as in many other industries. The wide array of ginger byproducts reflects the potential of economic activities connected with ginger and the financial benefits associated with it.

The lecture also covered kitchen garden and its benefits in greater details. Kitchen garden is a means to grow vegetables on a small plot of land. Besides being a delightful hobby, it can be pursued at home and in school premises. Once one develops a taste for kitchen gardening, it stay in your life. The importance of a kitchen garden is great and manifold. A kitchen garden ensures an inexpensive, regular and handy supply of fresh vegetables which are basic to nutrition. Kitchen garden prevents pollution of air. It purifies the air through the plants and helps in keeping environment clean and healthy.

The specific objectives of the sessions were to encourage and assist prospective entrepreneurs in the MSME sector; guiding and making them aware of the opportunities of this sector; to help the entrepreneurs with knowledge about the availability of raw materials, knowledge of market, source of technology and plant as well as machinery suppliers; to enhance employability skills of villagers thereby increasing their income; and to make the inhabitants of border villages aware about the advantages of kitchen gardening and ways to increase productivity with minimum cost.

The sessions were widely appreciated by the 97 local villagers who attended the event. This step of Assam Rifles was very well recieved and duly appreciated by all concerned including the VCPs (Presidents of Village Councils) who requested Assam Rifles for more such events, stated a release.
