AIZAWL: According to the special summary revision of electoral rolls for 2025, Mizoram has 869,813 registered voters, as announced by the state chief electoral officer on Monday. This represents an increase of 13,516 voters compared to the 2024 revision.

Official data from the state election department reveals that female voters exceed male voters by 28,037, with 420,888 male and 448,925 female electors registered.

The state comprises one Lok Sabha seat, one Rajya Sabha seat, and 40 assembly constituencies. Aizawl, containing 12 assembly constituencies, holds the highest voter count at 2,92,115 (1,36,350 males and 1,55,765 females). In contrast, Hnathial district in southern Mizoram, with its single assembly seat, has only 16,436 voters.

The Election Commission has set Jan 1, 2025, April 1, 2025, July 1, 2025, and Oct 1, 2025, as qualifying dates for a special summary revision of electoral rolls for Indian citizens turning 18 on these dates.

The removal of over 12,000 Bru voters, who relocated to Tripura, affected the numbers in Mizoram. This followed an agreement signed on Jan 16, 2020, in Delhi between the Centre, the governments of Tripura and Mizoram, and Bru representatives, allowing permanent settlement of 6,959 Bru families in Tripura.

Following instructions from the central election panel, the Tripura state election commission enrolled these Bru voters in their electoral rolls in 2023, resulting in their removal from Mizoram's voter lists.
