AIZAWL: Marking a significant milestone for the state’s sports infrastructure, Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday officially inaugurated the newly constructed Mizoram Badminton Centre at Zuangtui, Aizawl.
During his speech, CM Lalduhoma highlighted Mizoram’s natural talent for badminton and expressed confidence in the state’s ability to produce world-class players.
The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to his predecessors, including former Chief Minister Zoramthanga and Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia, for laying the foundation for the initiative. The construction is in line with Mizoram's Vision 2036 strategy, which seeks to produce young athletes capable of representing India internationally.
Speaking during the ceremony, Sports Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar reiterated that the Mizoram Badminton Association would manage the Center and make sure it develops into a hub for future Olympians in accordance with Vision 2036.
The Centre took nearly three years to complete and costed Rs. 18.21 crore as part of the Aizawl Smart City Limited project. It includes state-of-the-art amenities, including six standard-size badminton courts, dormitories for male and female players, a gymnasium, medical and coach rooms and spectator facilities. For enhanced safety and stability, the Centre is designed with pile foundations and also boasts 2 lakh-liter water storage capacity.
Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Secretary, UD & PA, chaired the inauguration ceremony where Rev. R. Lalhmangaiha offered the prayer of dedication, and Pu C.C. Lalchhuangkima, CEO of ASCL, presented the technical report.
