AIZAWL: Mizo National Front has accused the Zoram People's Movement government led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma of a serious charge for not having the guts to open doors to ethnic Mizos seeking shelter in Mizoram. Former Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia aired his concerns over the action of the state government at the party office 'Hnam Run' gathering.
Tawnluia said that the state government had recently sent away 28 refugees from the Bawm community, who had crossed over into Mizoram from the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. He attacked the government for not being bold enough to stand up to the directives of the central government, saying, "The state government has been keeping its tail between its legs and does not dare to object to the central government's instructions regarding sheltering our blood brothers."
He added that the present government is incapable of providing security to persecuted individuals in their respective countries. Tawnluia drew a comparison between the existing leadership of Lalduhoma and that of the former Chief Minister Zoramthanga, claiming that there is a comparative failure of the current government in providing security to ethnic Mizos seeking asylum.
Allegations made by the MNF are also reflective of tensions regarding the treatment of refugees and the relationship between state and central authorities, and it questions the government's responsibility toward its ethnic communities.
