KIPHIRE: An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 struck Kiphire district of Nagaland this morning, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) informed. The tremor was felt at 7:22 AM at a depth of 65 km and at latitude 25.62° N and longitude 94.90° E.

No reports of casualty or significant damage to the property has been reported till now in the affected areas.

The authorities have initiated assessing the situation. No major aftershocks have been reported so far, but local residents have been advised to be careful since teams are still monitoring the situation.

This earthquake follows a series of seismic activities in the Northeast. On November 25, at 11:05 p.m., a moderate earthquake with a Richter scale tremor of 3.8 occurred in the Dima Hasao area of Assam.

Other recent tremor include a 3.5-magnitude earthquake in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh (November 21), a 3.6-magnitude earthquake in the Bishnupur district of Manipur (November 22), and a 3.5-magnitude earthquake near Gangtok, Sikkim, on November 12, raising serious concerns over higher risks of seismic activities in north-east India.

There has not been any major structural damage or injuries reported from either incident. However, the authorities are closely monitoring the after-effects and are prepared to issue further updates in case of a change in situation. Local authorities, in consultation with the NCS, continue to monitor the seismic trend in the region.
