KOHIMA: The Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) stressed the importance of mutual respect between India and the Naga community on Friday. They stated that if India acknowledges the history of the Nagas, the Naga people would respond "ten times more" in return.
During the 46th Raising Day celebration of NSCN-IM in Hebron, Vice Chairman Tongmeth Wangnao highlighted two key events in India-Naga relations. He pointed out that the first formal recognition of Naga history came on July 11, 2002, during a meeting in Amsterdam.
The second significant milestone was the signing of the Framework Agreement on August 3, 2015, in New Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi playing an essential role in the agreement. Wangnao mentioned that the signing ceremony of the Framework Agreement was a historic moment, broadcasted live for the world to see, with the entire NSCN-IM leadership present.
Wangnao also reflected on the 27 years of peace talks, criticizing the Indian government’s "unethical tactics" aimed at weakening the negotiations led by NSCN-IM. He reaffirmed that despite these challenges, the group remains committed to the truth behind the Naga political movement.
In his speech, Wangnao emphasized the spiritual foundation of the movement, stating, "While the fate of the Naga political dialogue is in God’s hands, we must continue to seek strength under the banner of 'Nagalim for Christ.'" Although peace talks have been ongoing since the 1997 ceasefire, a final resolution has yet to be reached.
