Nagaland: Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Three Lives in Dikhu River

According to sources, the makeshift boat carrying the three youths capsized while they were attempting to cross the river.

MOKOKCHUNG: In a tragic incident, three persons reportedly drowned in the Dikhu River, a few metres above the Longleng-Changtongya bridge, on Saturday afternoon. According to sources, the makeshift boat carrying the three youths capsized while they were attempting to cross the river.

The victims, aged between 19 and 22, were part of a group picnic from PWD Ward Changtongya town, under the Mokokchung district. According to SDO (Civil) Changtongya, the accident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. when the three ventured into the river for rafting.

While the people nearby attempted to rescue the youth, they were too late. By evening, the locals recovered the dead bodies of the three. The victims have been identified as Ajidong (21), son of Limawati from Changtongya Yimsen; Imtimeren (22), son of Imnatoshi from Changtongya village; and Imnatila (19), daughter of Rongsentemjen from Yaongyimsen village.

The deceased bodies were retrieved by friends and family, as per reports. The funeral program for all three was held at PWD Ward, Changtongya town, on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch, under the guidance of General Secretary Akhale V. Khamo, carried out relief operations for families affected by recent fire incidents in Dimapur.
