KOHIMA: Sikkim Chief Minister Pema Tamang has officially flagged off the Nagaland contingent for this year’s Hornbill Festival, with Sikkim being recognized as the partner state for the event.
The Sikkim CM expressed his eagerness about the partnership, emphasizing how it reflects the shared cultural values and promotes unity among the states. He remarked that this partnership was not only to celebrate the culture between the two states but also to strengthen their bonds.
The contingent from Sikkim includes a diverse group of participants, including self-help groups (SHGs), bikers, car rally teams, media personnel, and officials from various departments. CM Tamang has played a key role in promoting the state’s culture and fostering initiatives that contribute to its welfare.
Nagaland is preparing to host the 25th edition of the iconic Hornbill Festival at Kisama Heritage Village. This year signifies a landmark event for the festival, which is celebrated as one of the major cultural events in the region since its inception in 2000. Chief Secretary Dr. J. Alam spoke about the festival's transformation, noting how it has become an internationally recognized event, attracting visitors from across India and beyond.
According to Dr. Alam, “This year’s festival is particularly special as it marks the silver jubilee. Over the years, the Hornbill Festival has gained immense popularity, drawing interest from across the country and abroad. Preparations are in full swing to welcome guests at both national and international levels.”
