GANGTOK: Following extensive damage from landslides, excessive rains, and river inundation, the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) has started road widening and maintenance work on National Highway 10 (NH10) in a significant step towards enhancing road connectivity.

NHIDCL has taken over the crucial Sevok to Rangpo stretch from the Public Works Department (PWD) of West Bengal, aiming to restore and strengthen this important route.

The road widening and maintenance project is expected to improve travel conditions and boost trade and tourism in the region. Faster development and better infrastructure are expected with NHIDCL in charge of the project, resolving long-standing issues for locals and companies alike.

The decision has been well received by locals and transporters, who believe that better road conditions would result in fewer disruptions and better connectivity with nearby states. The initiative demonstrates the government's dedication to improving Sikkim's infrastructure and fostering its economic development.

NH10, which serves as Sikkim's main link to the rest of India, has long been vulnerable to natural disasters, frequently causing travel disruptions and economic setbacks. The new project aims to make the highway more resilient to such challenges, ensuring smoother and safer travel for commuters and transporters.
