Sikkim Government Implements Stringent Measures to Combat Illegal Influx

GANGTOK: The 4th edition of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) legislators’ meeting was held in Gangtok at Samman Bhawan, led by Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who also happens to be the president of the party.

The meeting brought together SKM legislators, political advisors, and other key officials to discuss important issues and plan for the state’s future.

A traditional khada-arpan ceremony was held at the start, followed by a welcome address from Arun Upreti, Secretary General and Minister. One of the main topics was the celebration of the SKM party’s 13th Foundation Day. The Chief Minister urged party members to highlight the government’s achievements and engage the people of Sikkim in the progress made.

The meeting also addressed local concerns, including the influx of external workers into Sikkim. To protect local interests, the party decided to implement stricter manpower monitoring and a temporary work permit system at the Gram Panchayat level. There was also a focus on curbing the illegal subletting of trade licenses and promoting local skill development and employment.

CM Golay emphasized the importance of cleanliness and hygiene, calling for higher standards across government offices and public spaces. Discussions also covered the formation of a State Planning and Development Board to improve governance, as well as upcoming events like a pilgrimage tour to Mahakumbh and the visit of HH Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorjee to Sikkim.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from all members to continue working towards the state’s development under Golay’s leadership.
