GANGTOK: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has announced that the Sikkim government is all set to constitute a state planning and development board. This decision was taken in a meeting of legislators at Samman Bhawan on Tuesday, with the presence of senior officials.
In addition to the state-level planning board, the government plans to create similar boards at the assembly constituency levels. According to the Chief Minister, there would be nine-member committees within each constituency that oversee development and planning activities. These committees are supposed to promote localized governance in solving specific concerns while aligning it with the broader objectives of the state.
According to Tamang, the new governance structure would ensure coordination and transparency along with efficiency while implementing developmental projects all over Sikkim. He said that the government was committed to decentralization and inclusive growth, which would usher in sustainable development across the state.
The Chief Minister said that progress would be achieved only if implemented effectively with proper planning and stakeholder involvement. He promised that more details of the board's implementation, including the timelines, will be shared shortly.
This policy shows the willingness of the Sikkim government to improve the governance system, ensuring that developmental activities are formulated according to each constituency's need, which directly benefits the grassroots people.
