MUMBAI: In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 at the Jio World Convention Centre, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), with Sikkim making a notable appearance at the summit.
The summit, held under the theme “Connecting Creators, Connecting Countries,” organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, aims to bring together global leaders, innovators, and industry experts to shape the future of the media and entertainment sector.
The inaugural ceremony featured a cultural showcase and was attended by leading figures from the media, film, and business sectors. Sikkim’s participation added a significant regional dimension to the event, with senior officials from the state engaging in the discussions.
Bikash Basnet, political secretary to the chief minister, and Yougan Tamang, press secretary to the chief minister, are representing Sikkim at the summit, highlighting the state’s interest in exploring opportunities in the media and digital entertainment industries.
Additionally, Annapurna Alley, Secretary of the Information and Public Relations Department; Tenzing T. Kaleon, Secretary of the Information Technology Department; and Director of IT Tsering Samdup, along with other officials, are attending the event, showcasing Sikkim’s growing digital innovation capacity.
The four-day summit will continue with panel discussions and industry dialogues, providing valuable insights into the future of the media landscape.
