AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday informed the State Assembly that almost 95 percent of the work under the Agartala Smart City Mission has already been completed, with the remaining work expected to conclude by May 2025.
CM Saha made this announcement while responding to a calling attention notice by MLA Gopal Chandra Roy in the Tripura Legislative Assembly. He highlighted that the Smart Cities Mission scheme, which was approved by the Union Cabinet, is scheduled to conclude by June 30, 2025, and no further extension of the project has been announced by the Union Government yet.
Official estimates indicate that the Agartala Smart City Mission will cost a total of Rs. 541.04 crore, of which Rs. 490 crore will come from the Central Government and Rs. 51.04 crore from the State Government, representing a 90:10 funding ratio. Under the scheme, 65 projects were undertaken, with 62 projects worth Rs. 375.97 crore already completed.
Many residents question the actual impact of the Smart City Mission in Agartala, despite the claims of near-completion. While some infrastructural projects have been implemented, issues such as incomplete road repairs, poor drainage systems, inadequate waste management, and lack of proper urban planning remain evident.
