AGARTALA: To review the state's economic status with the government, the 16th Finance Commission, which was formed in accordance with Article 280 of the Indian Constitution, will make a visit to Tripura on January 29. This visit is a part of its nationwide engagements with states.
The commission is crucial in determining how the central government and state governments distribute revenue from taxes like income tax and GST. States were given 42% of the overall revenue in earlier recommendations.
The team will examine Tripura's expenditure patterns and financial regulations. One of the main points of emphasis will be Tripura's special category status, which enables the central government to provide 90% of the funds for non-plan expenses. The state's financial planning and resource allocation for Tripura depends on this visit.
Earlier this month, the 16th Finance Commission team, led by Chairman Arvind Panagariya, visited Sikkim to assess the state's financial needs and future allocations.
Upon arrival, they were welcomed by state officials, including Chief Secretary R. Telang and DGP Akshay Sachdeva. The team reviewed Sikkim's financial management, infrastructure development, and progress towards economic stability.
