AGARTALA: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Customs and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), successfully seized a total of 2,40,000 Yaba tablets valued at Rs 24 crore in Tripura over two days.
On February 26, acting on specific intelligence, a joint team intercepted unclaimed baggage on Train No. 12098 (Shatabdi Express) at Ambassa in Dhalai District. A proper scrutiny of the baggage led to the seizure of 1,50,000 Yaba tablets, which are estimated to be valued at Rs 15 crore in the global market. The illegal items were then handed to Customs for further legal proceedings.
The following day, another operation took place when a joint team of Assam Rifles and DRI intercepted a goods truck (No. TR 01 AU 1710) loaded with cement bags arriving from Shillong at Teliamura. During the inspection, 90,000 Yaba tablets, valued at Rs 9 crore, were discovered. One individual from Belonia, South Tripura, was arrested, and the seized drugs were transferred to DRI for further investigation.
The Assam Rifles pointed out that these operations are a continuation of their efforts to counter drug trafficking, in consonance with the state government's initiative of 'Nasha Mukt Tripura'. Ever since January 2025, Assam Rifles has successfully carried out 21 operations, seizing contraband worth Rs 95.56 crore, comprehensively destroying cross-border drug trafficking networks in the region.
