AGARTALA: A Bangladeshi smuggler was killed, and a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan sustained serious injuries after a clash near the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Sipahijhala district. The incident occurred when a group of 20-25 Bangladeshi smugglers allegedly infiltrated into India and attempted to assault a BSF patrol party near border pillar 2050/7-S.

According to reports, the miscreants had illegally entered the country near Border Outpost Putia and were engaged in smuggling activities in collaboration with local Indian counterparts. Upon being confronted by the BSF personnel, the group launched an attack, seriously injuring a jawan.

The situation worsened when the infiltrators tried to attack BSF personnel again and allegedly attempted to snatch their weapons. In self-defense, a BSF jawan fired one round, killing one Bangladeshi infiltrator, identified as Mohammed Alamin. Security in the area has been tightened after the incident.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, on January 7, a group of cross-border smugglers had attempted to attack Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on duty near the India-Bangladesh border in northern Tripura’s Unakoti district.

The smugglers had also tried to snatch the jawans’ weapons but were thwarted by the alert BSF team. The situation was further controlled with assistance from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), who had supported the Indian forces in dispersing the smugglers.

The incident had occurred near the Magroli gram panchayat when a group of 15-20 Bangladeshi smugglers was intercepted while attempting to smuggle contraband items. When challenged, the smugglers had retaliated with sharp weapons and tried to overpower the jawans.
