AGARTALA: Janajati Morcha President and MDC Bidyut Debbarma claimed that the BJP-led government is continuously trying to develop the welfare of tribal people in Tripura.

Attacking opposition parties, particularly CPIM and Congress, Debbarma alleged they had ignored the demands of tribal people. He said the BJP government has initiated many projects since 2018, specifically for the Tripura Autonomous District Council (TADC) regions, which had been neglected during the previous governments.

Debbarma claimed that a number of other initiatives included a hike in stipends by the Tribal Welfare Department and rehabilitation of the Bru community as key steps taken for the tribal people. He criticized the opposition for trying to mislead the public with unfounded allegations, saying that the work done by the BJP in the region spoke for itself.

The press conference was held ahead of the January 11 Raj Bhavan march by the Ganamukti Parishad, which plans to raise concerns about the state government’s policies. Regarding the ADC Village Committee elections, BJP leaders said the delay was because of technical problems with the names of Reang refugees in the voter list. They assured the public that efforts are going on toward solving the situation and to make sure elections take place soon.

Debbarma concluded by promising that the state government remains committed to the welfare of tribals and significant progress has been made in the region.
