Agartala: Five Bangladeshi nationals, including three minors, were detained by the police in the Magrum area of Tripura's Sabroom subdivision on Friday.

All those arrested were from the Hindu community. Police reports indicate that the detainees admitted to crossing the border illegally to escape the persecution of minority Hindus in Bangladesh. According to a police officer on duty, the authorities received information about the unlawful entry of Bangladeshi nationals through the Magrum border.

A joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police led to the raid and subsequent arrests. The individuals arrested were identified as Sanatan Misra Dey (35), Purni Dey (25), Narayani Dey (57), and two children.

The police have registered a case and are taking necessary legal steps according to the law. This incident comes amid a rising number of Bangladeshi Hindus illegally crossing the border into India, especially after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in Bangladesh.

Many of these immigrants have cited the violence and discrimination faced by Hindus in their homeland as the main reason for fleeing in search of safety. The growing number of such cases has raised concerns about the challenges faced by minority communities in Bangladesh.

Earlier this month, two Bangladeshi women, Rehana Sheikh (35) and Ankhi Sheikh (34), were arrested at Agartala's MBB Airport for attempting to board a flight to Delhi using fake Aadhar cards. Police discovered the cards in their possession. The women had previously been imprisoned in West Bengal for similar offenses before returning to India.
