AGARTALA: In a distressing incident, a 14-year-old girl was reportedly abducted and raped multiple times by two individuals, including a 16-year-old, on Saturday night in Tripura's North district. Authorities have arrested one suspect, identified as Imran Hossain, aged 35, while a search is ongoing for the second suspect, a minor.
The alleged crime occurred within the jurisdiction of Kadamtala Police Station when the victim was en route to a nearby wedding. According to police reports, the girl was intercepted by Hossain and the minor, both residents of Ward No. 3 in the Dheu Bari area. The suspects reportedly gagged the girl and forcibly took her to a newly constructed hostel associated with a local Madrasa, where the assault took place.
The victim then went home and told her mother what had happened to her, and the mother then lodged a formal complaint at the Kadamtala police station. The mother had also revealed that she stays at home with her children since her husband works in Dimapur, Nagaland. She added that the attackers intimidated her daughter by telling her not to speak out or risk repercussions on social media.
Officer-in-Charge of Kadamtala Police Station Jayanta Debnath has confirmed that a case has been registered under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as the victim is a minor. Hossain is under custody, while the minor suspect is on the run, which led the authorities to initiate a massive search operation.
