AGARTALA: Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb led the biannual Airport Advisory Committee meeting on Friday to discuss critical issues and lay down future developments at Agartala Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport.

The meeting presented an opportunity for discussing various operational challenges, improvement in infrastructure, and passenger services. Speaking to the press, MP Deb highlighted the significance of these meetings.

“The Airport Advisory Committee convenes every six months to examine the advantages, challenges, and needs of the airport. Many issues find resolution here, while unresolved matters are referred to the central government,” he stated.

The discussion covered increasing the frequency of flights, improving the amenities for the passengers, and lowering the price for the retail spaces available in the airport to the vendors. Improvement of lighting infrastructures topped the agenda and revealed the commitment of the committee toward a smooth experience during traveling.

A major outcome of the meeting was that flight services would be resumed on two major regional routes: Agartala to Aizawl and Agartala to Shillong. MP Deb pointed out that these routes would greatly strengthen regional connectivity and make traveling more convenient for people.

Regarding international connectivity, Deb said, "Currently, the political situation is so unstable in Bangladesh that it has a negative effect on cross-border air services." He seemed quite optimistic about stability in the situation and informed the committee that they would resume flights to Bangladesh once the situation becomes stable.

The committee reinforced its commitment toward turning Agartala MBB Airport into a region's hub with upgraded infrastructure, improved services that facilitate better connectivity and improved passengers' experiences overall.
