AGARTALA: In a multiple joint operation against narcotics, troops of BSF Tripura, along with Tripura Police and Forest Officials, on January 30 destroyed approx. 95,500 mature cannabis plants worth Rs 1,43,25,000 cultivated in the general area of Woangcherra, Harihardola, Uttar Manaipathar, and South Kalamchoura in Tripura.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint operation by the police, Tripura State Rifles (TSR), and Border Security Force (BSF) on January 30 took place in South Kalamchaura Baidar Dongo, Artaki Mora, and Hasher Dongo. The police and their counterparts destroyed and burned around 40,000 mature cannabis plants and arrested several cannabis farmers.

The special operation, conducted from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., was led by Kalamchaura police station Officer-in-Charge Nadu Gopal Deb, Sub-Inspector Biswajit Debbarma, and Inspector Bijendra Singh of the 49 Battalion BSF.

OC Nadu Gopal Deb led the campaign, which uncovered illegal cannabis cultivation on forest land in two areas of Kalamchaura. The total area covered spanned 15 acres across four plots.

“The problem cannot be resolved solely through legal measures. Building a drug-free Tripura necessitates social awareness and the active involvement of the community,” stated a police spokesperson.

“The cannabis plants were in a ripe state and could have supplied large quantities of drugs. However, due to our timely campaign, we successfully destroyed the cultivation,” explained OC Nadu Gopal Deb.
