Tripura Police Recover Illegal Firearm in Dharmanagar Ahead of Republic Day, Two Arrested

Tripura Police seized a 0.32 mm pistol in Dharmanagar and arrested two suspects from Bihar ahead of Republic Day, boosting security in the district.

DHARMANAGAR: In a late-night operation, Tripura Police raided the North Continental Hotel on Dharmanagar Station Road in North Tripura district, recovering a sophisticated 0.32 mm pistol. During the operation, two individuals from outside the state were arrested, causing a stir in the local community just ahead of Republic Day.

Following a tip-off, Dharmanagar Police swiftly raided a hotel and arrested two suspects, Niraj Kumar and Indal Kumar from Samastipur, Bihar. A senior police official confirmed the recovery of a weapon, saying, "The information we got was correct, and our team acted quickly to arrest the suspects without any problems."

The arrested individuals are currently held at Dharmanagar Police Station, where a case has been filed against them under Sections U/S-25/27 of the Arms Act and Section 111(1) of the BNS. "This is a serious matter, particularly with Republic Day approaching. We are conducting a thorough investigation into the origin of the firearm and the suspects' intentions," the official stated.

The recovery of the illegal weapon has worried residents of Dharmanagar and nearby areas, with many questioning the safety in the region. One local resident expressed concern, saying, "An incident like this, right before an important national event, makes us all worried about the safety measures in place."

Following the event, authorities have reassured the public that district-wide security has been stepped up. "We are committed to keeping everyone safe and will maintain strict watch," stated the superintendent of police.
