Guwahati: Assam’s boxers continued their impressive run in the 38th National Games as four boxers secured their spots in the finals at Pithoragarh, guaranteeing at least a silver medal for the state. The athletes who advanced to the final round today include Lovlina Borgohain, Shiva Thapa, Ankushita Boro, and Abhinab Saikia.
Shiva Thapa, a seasoned international boxer, showcased his experience by dominating Maharashtra’s Harivansh Tiwari with a decisive 5-0 victory. In the 71kg category, Abhinab Saikia delivered a commanding performance, defeating Delhi’s Gagan with a similar 5-0 scoreline.
In the 66kg category, Ankushita Boro displayed remarkable resilience and control, overcoming Nagaland’s Sanju to secure her place in the final. Meanwhile, Assam’s presence in the 75kg division remained strong as Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain used her vast experience to overpower Nagaland’s Renu with another flawless 5-0 win.
However, in the 54kg category, Ikon Mili’s journey came to an end in the semi-finals, where she faced a tough challenge from Madhya Pradesh’s Divya Pawa and suffered a defeat.
