Apurba Phukan Memorial Badminton Tournament Concludes in Sivasagar

The Second Annual Apurba Phukan Memorial All Assam Prize Money Badminton Tournament was recently held at the Chau-Lung Syukapha Indoor Stadium in Sivasagar.

SIVASAGAR: The Second Annual Apurba Phukan Memorial All Assam Prize Money Badminton Tournament was recently held at the Chau-Lung Syukapha Indoor Stadium in Sivasagar.

The event commenced with President Saurav Chaliha hoisting the flag. Former players Ashok Handique and Pratap Changkakati paid tribute to late Parag Chaliha by garlanding his statue and lighting lamps. Following this, Saurav Chaliha garlanded a portrait of Apurba Phukan, with lighting of lamps by Anshuman Phukan.

A total of 340 participants from Guwahati, Tezpur, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Bokakhat, Digboi, Golaghat, Nazira, Moran, Tinsukia, Naharkatia, Charaideo and Amguri participated in the tournament, which was held in boys and girls categories for ages 9, 11, 13, and 15.

At the closing ceremony, Akhil Ahom, Secretary of the tournament committee, led the prize distribution. Dignitaries including Saurav Chaliha, General Secretary of Chau-Lung Syukapha Indoor Stadium Management Committee; Manoj Bhagawati, General Secretary, Sivasagar District Sports Association; Sarat Hazarika; Rituraj Chetia, Assistant Secretary, Assam Badminton Association and Mrinal Chutia, Football Secretary presented the awards. The family of the late Apurba Phukan also attended the event. Additionally, Bedagni Gogoi and Abhigyan Dutta were felicitated by the stadium management committee for their outstanding performances and achievements at the recently held badminton tournament in Jammu.

Under 9 Boys: Champion - Mohan Kumar (Moran), Runner-Up - Arik Palash Dutta (Digboi)

Under 9 Girls: Champion - Ikshika Thakuria (Tinsukia), Runner-Up - Dhanishtha Gogoi (Sivasagar)

Under 11 Boys: Winner - Arshad Taseer Islam (Sivasagar), Runner-Up - Deeptapingle Sonowal (Naharkatia)

Under 11 Girls: Winner - Adishree Borgohain (Sivasagar), Runner-Up - Harshini Dutta (Jorhat)

Under 13 Boys: Winner - Abhigyan Dutta (Sivasagar), Runner-Up - Shivashish Noukakhya (Sivasagar)

Under 13 Girls: Winner - Bishtina Balari Rajkhowa (Sivasagar), Runner-Up - Adishree Buragohain (Sivasagar)

Under 15 Boys: Winner - Anikesh Dutta (Sivasagar), Runner-Up - Ayush Gogoi (Sivasagar)

Under 15 Girls: Winner - Subhashree Smrita Baruwati (Sivasagar), Runner-Up - Bishtina Balari Rajkhowa (Sivasagar)
