GUWAHATI: Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club (ASEBSC) clinched the Kamrup Metro Leg title in the 70th Bordoloi Trophy Football Championship, defeating DBISC 3-1 in a well-contested final at the SAI Sports Complex here on Thursday. With this victory, ASEBSC secured their place in the second phase of the competition, the Capital Region Cluster, set to be held in Chamata.

The final witnessed an intense battle between the two sides. The first half saw three goals, with ASEBSC leading 2-1 at the break. They later extended their lead with another goal in the second half.

ASEBSC took an early lead in the 11th minute when Ripu Narzary stunned the opposition goalkeeper with a sudden long-range strike that found the back of the net. Just nine minutes later, Ruhit Phukan doubled the advantage, capitalizing on a free kick near the box.

DBISC, initially struggling under pressure, gradually regained composure after conceding the second goal. They managed to reduce the deficit through Romarius Laban, who scored from a well-placed header following a corner kick. Moments earlier, ASEBSC’s goalkeeper Daoga Brahma had denied DBISC with a brilliant save, but this time, he misjudged the flight of the ball, allowing Ronarius to capitalize.

The second half saw DBISC dominating possession and creating several scoring opportunities. However, ASEBSC’s defense remained resolute, preventing them from equalizing. ASEBSC, though largely on the defensive, managed to launch two attacking moves, one of which resulted in a goal. In the 79th minute, Sanswrang Basumatary sealed the victory by converting a well-constructed play.

Sujalal Brahma of ASEBSC was named the Best Player of the Meet, while Akash Swargiyari of Gauhati Town Club was adjudged Best Goalkeeper. ASEBSC was awarded a cash prize of Rs 75,000 for winning the title.

The closing ceremony was graced by several distinguished guests, including Chairperson of the Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission, Kumar Sanjay Krishna, who attended as the Chief Guest. Former Assam footballer Molong Ao was present as the Guest of Honour, while former athlete Tayabun Nisha and SAI North East Region Executive Director DK Mittal attended as special guests.
