GUWAHATI: Assam secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Women’s U23 T20 Trophy defeating Vidarbha by 3 wickets at St. Xavier’s KCA Cricket Ground, Trivandrum, on Thursday. The victory was led by stellar performances from Rashmi Dey (3-15) and Gayatri Gurung (32).
Vidarbha, batting first, posted 103/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Sai Rajesh Bhoyar was the top scorer with 35 runs, while Sayali Rajendra Shinde and Prerna Randive contributed 18 runs each. For Assam, Rashmi Dey delivered a brilliant spell, picking up 3 wickets for just 15 runs in her 4 overs. Jinti Kalita, Florina Taye and Pahri Saikia chipped in with one wicket each.
In their chase, Assam faced early challenges, losing 4 wickets for 30 runs. However, opener Gayatri Gurung’s composed 32 runs and a crucial knock of 26 by Florina Taye helped Assam reach the target in 18.5 overs with 7 wickets down. Vidarbha’s Vedanti Salodkar impressed with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 7 runs.
Assam will face Kerala in the quarterfinals on January 18.
The president of the Assam Cricket Association, Taranga Gogoi, and secretary Tridib Konwar congratulated the team on their outstanding performance and extended their best wishes for the upcoming match.
