GUWAHATI: It was a day of mixed fortunes for Assam at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand on Monday. While the women’s team stormed into the semifinals of the netball event, the men’s table tennis team exited the competition.
In table tennis, Assam’s men’s team failed to progress beyond the group stage after losing both their matches against Tamil Nadu and Telangana. Assam needed just one win from their final two group matches to secure a semifinal spot. However, they fell to Telangana 1-3 before suffering a 0-3 defeat against Tamil Nadu, ending their campaign.
On the other hand, the Assam women’s netball team kept their medal hopes alive by advancing to the semifinals. They stunned Punjab 26-18 in the morning match and followed it up with another dominant victory, defeating Karnataka 26-16 in the afternoon. Assam will face Delhi in their final group-stage match on Tuesday.
