Guwahati: City Cricket Club and Gauhati Town Club (GTC) registered comfortable victories in their respective matches of the GTC Men’s Spring T20 Cup played at Judges Field here today.
In a rain-curtailed fixture reduced to five overs a side, City Cricket Club outclassed Navajyoti Club by 9 wickets. Navajyoti managed 49 for 7 in their allotted overs, with Sadek Imran Choudhury top-scoring with 24 runs. Rabi Chetry impressed with the ball, returning figures of 3 for 8 in one over. In reply, City Cricket Club chased down the target in 4.4 overs, losing only one wicket. Sanjib Barman led the charge with an unbeaten 27, well supported by Rohan Hazarika’s 19.
In the other match of the day, Gauhati Town Club cruised to a 55-run win over Navarang Club. Batting first, GTC posted a commanding 192 for 6 in their 20 overs. Sumit Kashyap stole the show with a blistering 61 off 31 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes. Gokul Sharma (42 off 30) and Dhruvraaj Borah (32) also made valuable contributions. Asif Wasimul Haque was the pick of the bowlers for Navarang, taking 2 for 36, while Amit Kumar Yadav claimed 2 for 55.
In response, Navarang Club could only manage 137 for 9 in their 20 overs, falling well short of the target. Asif Wasimul Haque shone with the bat as well, scoring a fighting 51 off 33 balls (2 fours, 4 sixes), completing a commendable all-round performance. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome the disciplined GTC bowling attack, led by Mantu Yadav (2-11), Bishal Sarma (2-16), and Gokul Sharma (2-22).
