Guwahati: Assam fall to Odisha by 63 runs in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

GUWAHATI: Assam suffered a 63-run defeat to Odisha in a rain-affected Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. The game was curtailed to nine overs per side due to wet outfield.

Batting first, Odisha posted a formidable total of 120/7 in their allotted 9 overs. Opener Swastik Samal played a blistering knock of 69 runs (26 balls, 4X7, 6X5), well-supported by Sandeep Pattanaik, who added 31. Assam’s bowlers Avinav Choudhury (2/12) and Roshan Alam (2/34) managed to pick wickets but couldn’t contain the scoring rate.

In response, Assam’s batting faltered under pressure, managing only 57 runs in 8.1 overs. Saahil Jain was the top scorer with 18 runs, but the rest of the lineup struggled against Odisha’s disciplined bowling attack. Nipon Deka (12) was the other batter who scored double-digit run in the innings. Govinda Poddar (2/8), Rajesh Mohanty (2/12), Pradeep K Pradhan (2/12), and Jamala B Mohapatra (2/16) shared the wickets to secure a comprehensive victory for Odisha.
