GUWAHATI: International Master (IM) Mayank Chakraborty, the tournament’s top seed, led in the South Point School Guwahati India Open International Rating Chess Tournament with two consecutive wins, securing 2 points. He is currently tied with 83 other players who also maintained perfect scores after the second round. The second day witnessed a couple of surprising results: On Board 6, Assam’s renowned player Mahendra Bora achieved an upset by defeating higher-seeded Arpan Das from West Bengal. On Board 11, young chess talent Hridika Das held Tamil Nadu’s experienced player Gautham Ramesh to an impressive draw.
