DIBRUGARH: Indian Army unveiled the coveted trophy for the Captain Jintu Gogoi Football Tournament on the momentous occasion of Vijay Diwas 2024. This tournament is named after the the braveheart from Golaghat, Assam, Captain Jintu Gogoi, who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War 1999. The tournament is designed to ignite the spirit of competition and camaraderie among the youth of the region.

The grand unveiling ceremony took place in Digboi, orchestrated by the Laipuli Brigade of the Red Shield Division. This brigade holds a remarkable legacy, having played a pivotal role in the 1971 operations on the Eastern Front and is also known as the Albert Ekka Brigade, in tribute to Lance Naik Albert Ekka who was awarded the Paramvir Chakra for his extraordinary bravery during the Battle of Gangasagar.

The event was graced by enthusiastic young footballers from local schools in Digboi, alongside team captains and managers from various participating clubs. This year tournament will showcase an exhilarating participation of 12 teams from across Assam. Matches will unfold at multiple venues in Tinsukia, culminating in a grand finale at Duliajan.
