GUWAHATI: Olympic medallist boxer Lovlina Borgohain delivered a stunning performance at the 38th National Games, securing a place in the semifinals of the 75kg category with a commanding 5-0 victory over her opponent from Uttarakhand in Pithoragarh on Tuesday. With this win, Lovlina has also assured herself a medal in this edition of the Games. Assam’s boxing contingent continued to impress as Avinab Saikia also advanced to the semifinals in the 71kg category, defeating his Uttarakhand opponent 5-0, ensuring another medal for the state.
Assam Men’s football Team eye final Spot: Assam men’s team are set to play their semifinal match against Kerala on Wednesday. This marks a significant achievement as Assam has reached the semifinals of the National Games football competition after a long gap.
Mixed day for Assam in Lawn bowls: Assam’s lawn bowls players showcased mixed performances in Uttarakhand on Tuesday. Suranjan Barua, Ritu Das, and the mens' doubles pair Biman Nath and Biswajit Khound stormed into their respective finals, ensuring more medals for Assam. However, Nayanmoni Saikia, despite a valiant effort, lost her semifinal match 19-21, settling for a bronze medal. Assam also bagged bronze medals in the womens' fours category and the mens' triples event, both teams suffering defeats in their respective semifinals.
Disappointing show in archery: Assam’s archers struggled to meet expectations, with most of them bowing out of the competition. Notably, Jayanta Talukdar and Bishal Changmai failed to advance in medal round matches. Despite the setbacks, Assam still has a chance to add to its medal tally, with two archers competing in bronze medal matches and they are: Tutumoni Boro (Indian Round, Women). Arun Boro and Namrata Boro (Mixed Event).
