GUWAHATI: Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa inaugurated the Junior Elite Tennis Camp at the Rudra Singha Tennis Complex in Guwahati on Monday. The week-long camp is being conducted by the Jaidip Mukerjea Tennis Academy in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare.
A total of 22 young tennis players from across the country, including 8 from Assam, are participating in the seven-day program, which is part of the initiative titled “Revival of Indian Tennis.”
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Gorlosa emphasized the state government’s commitment to the promotion of all sports disciplines in Assam. “Now, it’s time to focus on tennis. I extend my gratitude to the Jaidip Mukerjea Tennis Academy for organizing this camp. It will provide valuable exposure to young talents, and I believe that one day, players from this camp will represent India at the international level,” she said.
Both minister Gorlosa and tennis legend Jaidip Mukerjea were introduced to the players during the opening ceremony of the camp.
The ongoing Junior Elite Tennis Camp is supervised by Mukerjea himself, along with former international star Somdev Devvarman and former India No. 1 Prajnesh Gunneswaran. In addition to on-court training, the program includes sessions on fitness and other essential aspects of the game.
