GUWAHATI: NFRSA staged a strong comeback to defeat Guwahati by seven wickets on the second day of the Nuruddin Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament at Goalpara on Friday. Guwahati, who held a 37-run first innings lead and resumed at 9 without loss in their second innings, faltered as the match progressed. They were eventually bowled out for 128 in 43.4 overs, thanks to an impressive spell from NFRSA’s veteran spinner Sarupam Purkayastha, who took 5 for 24. He was well supported by Abhilash Gogoi, who claimed 3 for 30. Sumit Ghadhigaonkar (36) and Jitu Ali (34) were the top scorers for Guwahati. Chasing 166 for victory, NFRSA reached the target comfortably in 43 overs, losing only three wickets. Sibsankar Das remained unbeaten on 54, while Kunal Saikia supported him with an unbeaten 29 when the match came to an end. Earlier, Sumit Kashyap gave a solid start with a valuable knock of 42. Both NFRSA and Guwahati qualified for the final round of the tournament.
