GUWAHATI: Rohit Sen, the explosive opener of Guwahati Royals, produced a breathtaking batting display at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara, in the final, leaving the crowd mesmerised with a sensational 90 off just 37 balls.
With the pressure of a final firmly on the players, Rohit showed no signs of nerves. Opening the innings alongside Sanjay Singh, the batter made his intentions clear from the very first delivery. Facing Shubham Kumar Gupta, Rohit smashed a six off the opening ball before following it up with a boundary from the second.
That was only the beginning. From there, Rohit turned the final into a one-sided affair, taking on every bowler and finding boundaries all around the ground. His aggressive strokeplay powered Guwahati Royals to 83 without loss during the opening partnership.
Rohit was particularly dominant during the stand with Sanjay. Of the 83 runs scored by the pair, Rohit contributed a staggering 79, taking complete control of the innings. His final figures were remarkable. Rohit faced only 37 deliveries and smashed 90 runs, including 10 boundaries and six sixes. He looked well on course to complete a magnificent century in the final, but his dismissal for 90 brought an end to one of the most memorable knocks of the tournament.
The performance was a fitting finale to what had already been an outstanding campaign for the batter from Kokrajhar. Rohit played 12 matches and accumulated 543 runs, finishing as the tournament's leading run-scorer and claiming the Orange Cap. He scored four half-centuries, including the highest score 96. His dominance was further underlined by his six-hitting numbers: 39 sixes and 48 boundaries, both tournament records. Rohit may have missed out on a century, but his 90-run blitz ensured that he left the biggest stage with one final reminder of why he was the standout batter of the competition.
