GUWAHATI: Guwahati gained a commanding position against Rangia on the opening day of the U-16 Inter District Cricket Tournament at Nehru Stadium here today.

After being invited to bat first, Guwahati posted a solid total of 252 for 7 in 45.5 overs before declaring their 1st innings. Partha Pratim Kashyap led the charge with a well-crafted 71 off 84 balls, hitting four boundaries and a six, while Nihal Baishya added 76 off 72 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes. Bhavyamanyu Baruah also chipped in with a useful 43 runs.

For Rangia, Yash Poddar emerged as the most successful bowler, taking 3 for 89, while Om Basfor supported well with 2 for 38.

In reply, Rangia struggled against Guwahati’s disciplined bowling attack and were reduced to 104 for 9 in 47 overs by stumps. Partha Pratim Kashyap showcased his all-round skills by picking up 3 wickets, and Sameer Mahato also claimed 3 scalps to put Guwahati in the driver’s seat.

For Rangia, Madhurjya Pratim Nath offered some resistance with a gritty 29, but lacked support from the other end as wickets tumbled around him.
