PV Sindhu Crashes Out Early in Swiss Open; Mixed Results for Indian Shuttlers

PV Sindhu suffers third straight first-round exit at Swiss Open, while Priyanshu, Anupama, and Sankar Muthuswamy secure wins.

BASEL: Two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu suffered another early exit, losing 17-21, 19-21 to Denmark’s Julie Jakobsen in the first round of the Swiss Open Super 300. The defeat marks Sindhu’s third consecutive first-round exit of the year.

Priyanshu Rajawat (WR 35) eased past Switzerland’s Tobias Kuenzi 21-10, 21-11 in just 29 minutes in Men’s Singles. He faces Toma Junior Popov (France) next.

S Sankar Muthuswamy Subramanian dominated Magnus Johannesen (Denmark) 21-5, 21-16. Kiran George exited after a hard-fought 21-18, 17-21, 10-21 loss to Rasmus Gemke (Denmark).

Anupama Upadhyay defeated Anmol Kharb 21-14, 21-13 in an all-Indian clash. She will face Putri Kusuma Wardani (Indonesia, 4th seed) next.

Sathish Kumar Karunakaran & Aadya Variyath won 21-15, 22-20 against Algeria’s Tanina & Koceila Mammeri in Mixed Doubles . They will face Kuang Heng Liu & Yu Chieh Jheng (Chinese Taipei). Agencies
